Only 75% of the owners have voted. We are extending the deadline
to Wednesday, March 22. Remember, Spectrum is offering
cable tv and internet for $74 per month. We have residents who
currently are spending up to $200 and more for these services.
This will save them at least $126 per month. Also, the $74 rate
could allow someone who couldn't afford cable tv or internet a
rate that may now be affordable. We need 75% yes votes from
140 owners to allow us to take advantage of this program.
The $74 will be applied to your association fees; ie. if you are
paying $295 in fees, you will be paying $369 each month. If you
are paying $334 in fees, you will be paying $408. It is important
that everyone understands that the contract mandates that
the monthly fees for every condo include the $74. In
exchange you will receive the Select cable package and 500
speed internet, which normally would cost $150 per month.
The contract is for 5 years with an increase of 6% each year.
For example, the first increase would be $4.44 per month.
Whether you vote yes or no, PLEASE VOTE! There are ballots
at the clubhouse and a box to put them in.
Another thing to keep in mind is that with this plan those who travel South for all or part of the winter will not be able to cancel their service while
gone. Since the payment is added to the assessments, everyone has to pay whether using or not.
Perhaps another option for those interested in spectrum being a sole provider would be to get together and negotiate a rate directly with spectrum. This way those not interested do not have to participate and nothing is added to the assessments. This group could sign a 5 year contract so they get the rate they want and spectrum can lock in their service.
This may appear to be a really good deal for many, but it’s not for everyone. Cable TV is expensive, and many people are simply opting for other choices. I dropped cable a number of years ago, found better program choices and reduced my expenses - substantially. Many people I know have done the same. Technology and internet competition are constantly evolving. Five years is too long. If we sign this contract, we will also raise our fees to a point where they will appear comparatively high, especially to the potential buyers who do not want cable, or who simply want to preserve their ability to make their own choices where they can.
It will also lock us into a 5 year contract. In the world of technology, that’s a lifetime. We will lose our freedom of choice in the future. People moving in will have no choice of providers, which could affect future sales. Those who choose to not have any service at all will lose that choice to reduce their monthly obligations if needed. Let’s not be so short sighted as to embrace the immediate savings while not considering the long term impact. Just a few of my thoughts. Bruce Tumblin
This is a really good deal! Current rates will only go up each year and will make it harder for a lot of us to afford to keep internet and cable.
